Liquid-to-Liquid Heat Exchanger

Use this kit to assess the heat transfer of a plate and frame liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger. The temperature of all water streams entering and leaving the heat exchanger should be measured. The water flow rate should be measured of the supply water stream leaving the heat exchanger (typically the chilled water supply stream).

  • To measure the water flow rate you can borrow the ultrasonic flow meter to take a direct measurement, but installation requires more effort. An alternate method is to borrow a 4-Channel analog logger with a pressure transducer and use the pump curve to infer the water flow rate.
  • To measure temperature, borrow up to four (4) T-type temperature sensors and one 4-Channel thermocouple logger. All four sensors can connect to a single 4-Channel thermocouple logger. If there are space constraints in the mechanical room, consider borrowing a second 4-Channel thermocouple logger and connect two T-type temperature sensors to each logger.

See related documents and content below for how to setup and install the equipment in this kit.
